DEMONSTRATION EVENTS

THE SOUND OF FILM

An opportunity to think about and discuss variations of how sound can be used in contemporary filmmaking. Sound does not have one role in filmmaking, but many. Film is not primarily a visual medium, it is audiovisual, and to only engage with the visual aspect is, as George Lucas said, to miss “half the picture”. This lesson will involve group participation, critical thinking, audioviewing samples from films, introducing some sound-specific film vocabulary, a limited history of sound design, and most importantly, practice in different types of listening.

BACK TO FILM SCHOOL

A filmmaking "crash-course" for the aspiring, beginner filmmaker!

INTRO TO COLOR MANAGEMENT:
LOG, LUTS AND LOOKS

Ever been confused about the difference between Color Correction and Color Grading? Wanted to know why LOG or RAW footage looks the way it does? Ever used a LUT and wondered what exactly it was?
Even if you're not a professional colorist, a good understanding of Color Management can make the difference in pulling the most out of your image, no matter what you're shooting on. Whether you're a beginner or a professional, understanding why imaging pipelines exist can influence the way we use our image making tools.
In this live demonstration, learn about the fundamentals of Color Management with resources that every filmmaker can get their hands on, with techniques that apply to everything from an iPhone to a fully fledged cinema camera.
